Handed to us for review at the recent
IPMS(UK)
National Championships/Scale Modelworld 2001, was the latest in the
Warpaint series published by Hall Park Books Limited.
Particularly relevant to those of us
interested in large scale subjects with the imminent release of Hasegawa's
completely new 1:32nd scale Messersmitt Bf109G, we were delighted to be able
to review it.

I have to admit, before I
start, that I'm no particular expert on this aeroplane, but this book seems to
cover the history of this famous machine in a pretty comprehensive manner,
from the prototypes, through the wartime marks to the post-war Czech and
Spanish versions - including some interesting movie schemes!

The text takes the reader
through the development history of the aeroplane, but the main interest is the
illustration and photographic coverage.

The title is profusely
illustrated throughout, with some superb colour profiles by Chris Banyai-Riepl
along with some excellent period photographs illustrating the main types -
many of these photo's were new to me and provide inspiration in abundance.

Aimed at the modeller, the
title includes stencil placement information and a guide to Staffel, Gruppe
and Geschwader markings. Overall - very
highly recommended to all 109 enthusiasts and a superb source of the most
vital of all modelling resources - inspiration!
