I am an Ex. truck driver who has always been
interested in aircraft and as I could not fly one I have been building models
instead, my first model was in 1942 of a Lysander but I have got better since. I
have won many IPMS class trophies in the early seventies, the Revell trophy was
mine for at least five years I think, but then I stopped entering competitions
to let others have a chance, now I judge at many shows. I worked with Matchbox
for some time designing instruction sheets, mainly the AMT truck series when
M/box owned the company, as I was still involved in trucking they wanted my
expertise but I also did a number of aircraft as well. I write reviews for Scale
Models International mainly aircraft these days but it used to be a lot on
trucks, not much difference is there?
I have a large collection of models, I would
guess about 1000, (and about the same amount of kits still to build, anybody
want to catalogue them for me, Ha Ha!) mostly aircraft which I take to shows
around the country and put on exhibitions of a small number of them at a time. I
do make a few 1/32nd models these days, but most are 1/48th. In the
early days I built every single 1/32nd Revell kit as they were released and I
gave them all away - how I regret that now, aeroplanes and trucks make up most
of my collection but I don't restrict myself to these. I have cars, ships and
galleons, no figures though - I am lousy at those, and I have built things like
freezer plants for your frozen peas etc.. I have taken some time out recently to
learn a bit about computing and these are the results!
Good modelling!
