Larry
Hawkins
My name is Larry Hawkins. I've been
building for 45 yrs +. I've been building combat 32nd aircraft since '69. I've
had in the past over 300+ models, but have sold most and concentrating on the
32nd scale in aircraft + facts.
I have experienced several model mediums
in the past but have kept the 32nd scale in high regards to the detail,
scratch building, kit bashing, and since 1990 have put all my energies into
building vac kits b/c they are a challenge and are more to the detail as in
the real aircraft itself. I have maintained a constant visual, on all types of
after market products. I have talked to several people in the business and I'm
still trying to get certain things made but it takes everyone, including
myself to get the word out.
Larry has his own site
which you can visit
here.
Larry is a prolific builder
of Vac kits that many will have you believe are un-buildable - I'll let the
pictures answer that one! Larry - we salute you!

Martin B-57B
The ID Vac kit that was
pretty much easy for this type of aircraft. Used Model Master paints, Revell
Beaufighter wheels and tyres, nose strut from the scrap box with wheels and
tyres from the Hasegawa F-86 kit. Cockpit was scratchbuilt. Bombs are from the
Revell F-104 and decals from my stash.

He-219 'UHU' (OWL)
Again - ID Models vac. Used
the Jerry Rutman resin detail set which *really* is worth the money to do this
vac kit justice. Without it you have to do a lot more scratchbuilding.
Antennas are from the Revell Bf-110G kit - modified as plans. One thing on
this ID vac - the flaps, ailerons and elevators are moulded separately on the
carrier sheet - I left the elevators as one complete tailplane. Model Master
paints were used - flat black first over the entire plane - then masked off
the upper surfaces to be painted separately. Decals, once again, from my
stash.

Ta-183
This is a limited run Vac
kit that I got through Aviation USK. Can't get another one. It was a fun
build!
I used a PVC pipe for the
engine intake and used a Trumpeter A-10 resin engine - which can be seen front
and back.
A Hasegawa Fw-190A-8
cockpit was used to which was added a vac seat and P.E. harness. Gear
legs/struts are from the spares box and main wheels and tires are from the
Hasegawa 109G-6. Nose wheel tire is from a 1:48th Do-335 from Monogram.
Paint is ModelMaster and
decals from the spares box.

Grumman Tigercat
This is the ID Models Vac
kit - with added Revell Corsair engine and props.
Interior was scratchbuilt -
seat harnesses added to both.
Wheels and tires are from
the spares box. Gear legs/struts are plastic and aluminum tubing. Bombs - from
Hasegawa P-51, rockets from the Revell P-38.
Decals are from the spares
box and a white lettering sheet. Paint is a special mix of dark blue with with
a mix of blue and flat coat mix, to give it a faded, weathered look.

B24 Liberator! Combat
Models
What can I say about this
model? Well, it's my second one - but no more for a 24!
I added an interior and
everything as follows:
1. Waist .50s with feed
chutes
2. Jerry Rutman Detail set
3. Jerry Rutman Props
4. Nose piece was a generic
item contributed by Glen Senkowski (aka Rotorhead onvarious forums!)
5. Decals - from the scrap
box
6. Norden Bombsight added
from the Revell 'Droop Snoot' P-38 kit
7. Completely detailed
nose, housing .50s and feed chutes
8. Scratchbuilt tail turret
from photo's
9. Full bomb bay added with
bombs, racks etc, all hand painted. Bombs are from the Monogram 1:48 P-38 and
Hasegawa P-51
10. Top turret, including
.50s scratchbuilt, clear section from a Guillows B-25 used
11. Paint - special mix -
panel lines added with a black marker.
12. Silver paint added to
areas that would have received weathering

Grumman Prowler - ID
Models Vac - built as a commission.
This is the ID kit with the
exception of Decals - these we sourced from Armagan Kayra (of CAM Decals fame)
who had them blown up to 1:32 scale by Mike Grant. Seats are from the Revell
F-14 - to which seat belt harnesses have been added. The cockpit is completely
scratchbuilt and the canopies tinted yellow.
The Revell F-14 also
supplied the wheels and tires. All other items were built to plans and added -
from photos supplied by others. Model Master paints were used.

Fiat G55 - ID Models Vac
- very nice model Larry!

Grumman Tigercat -
Combat Models Vac...

Larry's amazing 1:32 SU27
from the ID Models vac kit - I can testify how basic this 'kit' is - Larry
makes it all look so easy!
